SHILLONG, Dec 20: Days after West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee launched the Meghalaya Financial Inclusion for Women Empowerment (MFI WE ) scheme, Mawlai legislator PT Sawkmie on Tuesday slammed the TMC saying people in the state need development and not cash.
Sawkmie said TMC was offering cash to get votes in the state but it would be difficult for the new party to win the confidence of the people. “We need to think about development and not cash,” Sawkmie reiterated.
Under the MFI WE, the TMC has promised an assured monthly income support of Rs 1,000 (Rs 12,000 per annum) to a woman in every household through direct transfer to the bank account of the beneficiaries.
According to the TMC, the first instalment would be transferred within 100 days of the party forming the government in Meghalaya.
The TMC is claiming that over 35,000 women in Meghalaya have already registered themselves under the scheme.
