A grand Christmas celebration

SHILLONG, Dec 26: Christmas celebrations in 2022 was a scene to behold — people in large gatherings flocked across the city on Sunday, mainly at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians (commonly known as the Cathedral), and Police Bazar, while there was a slightly larger presence around Laitumkhrah too.
Special prayers were offered in different churches in Shillong and elsewhere in the state as well.
A decked up Police Bazar stole the spotlight on the day as a chain of people, primarily tourists, thronged the rotary at Khyndai Lad to take pictures. The footfall in the market area of Police Bazar was also significant. Long queues were seen outside some of the happening restaurants and eateries of Shillong.
The commercial hub was so densely packed that people were scuttling from one eatery to another in search of tables.
At Cathedral, a variety of decorations drew crowd from every corner of the city and of course tourists, who were soaked in the spirit of celebrations at this iconic structure. Photo sessions were again one of the major activities at this happening venue.
While nothing seriously untoward was reported from the day, a video has gone viral on social media where a woman is seen thrashing a boy in Khyndai Lad area. Another video shows a group of boys creating nuisance in the Police Bazar. Police have said that action would be taken.
SPARK celebrates Christmas with underprivileged children
A social organistion called SPARK organised a fun-filled Christmas celebration for around 400 underprivileged children from East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi.
A special get-together was held wherein special prayers were held with the participation of the children.
Many colourful performances were given by the children during the celebrations.
