Shillong, Dec 27: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) on Tuesday filed an FIR at the Sadar police station here seeking suitable legal action against TMC MP Kirti Azad for mocking at PM Narendra Modi who wore the enchanting Khasi traditional dress recently.
Taking strong exception to the recent tweet by Azad, HITO president, Donbok Dkhar said that the TMC MP even insulted Khasi tribe by morphing a picture that depicted the dress as a female wear easily available online.
In order to uphold the self-respect and rich history of Khasi tribe against such insult, Dkhar informed that the organisation would take out a peaceful procession on December 30, which is also the day when they will commemorate the 160th death anniversary of the legendary martyr U Woh Kiang Nangbah.
He informed that the procession would commence from Motphran at 11 am and proceed through G S Road culminating at the State Central library premises where the statues of the three martyrs of Meghalaya are kept for the posterity.
The HITO president further urged that the precisionists to take out their traditional wear and put it on proudly so that the world would witness the grandeur of the traditional attire on this day.
He also called upon all Meghalayans, which include the indigenous sons and daughters of the soil and ‘Raiot’- people born and brought up in this land cutting across community, caste, or creed- to represent the Abode of the Clouds wherever they are.
Dkhar further reiterated that since this would be a peaceful procession, there shall be no disruption to trade and commerce in the city and all shops and commercial establishments are requested to run their trade normally without any apprehension or fear.
“This is a purely democratic and progressive manner of displaying our solidarity and universal pride towards our r rich heritage that has earned the respect and love of millions of people across the world,” HITO president added.
