SHILLONG, Dec 28: Rambrai-Jyrngam MLA Kimfa Sydney Marbaniang on Wednesday resigned from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The suspended Congress legislator submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
Marbaniang is likely to join the National People’s Party and contest next year’s Assembly polls from the ruling party.
Marbaniang and four other Congress MLAs – Ampareen Lyngdoh, PT Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem and Mohendro Rapsang – had joined the MDA backed by BJP in February this year, following which all of them were suspended by the AICC.
