NONGSTOIN, Dec 29: Days after suspended Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh joined the National People’s Party (NPP), Kimfa Sydney Marbaniang has become another suspended Congress MLA to join the party.
Kimfa was formally inducted into the party during a gathering at his Rambrai residence on Thursday.
The induction ceremony was attended by NPP national president Conrad K Sangma, NPP national vice president Prestone Tynsong, MLAs Shniawbhalang Dhar, Macmillan Byrsat, Ampareen Lyngdoh Mohendro Rapsang as well as party supporters.
Addressing the induction ceremony, Kimfa expressed his gratitude to Conrad and Prestone for reaching out to him.
“After lots of consideration from the supporters and the leaders from Khasi and Garo community, and after taking into account the political scenario in the state, I decided to join the NPP,” an elated Kimfa said, while maintaining that the NPP has laid utmost focus on the development of Rambrai.
He also informed that various developmental interventions initiated by the state government for the Rambra-Jyrngam constituency encouraged him to join the NPP.
Assuring that he will work hard for the party, Kymfa exuded confidence that he will make a comeback as the MLA of Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency next year.
Conrad, on the other hand, said that many leaders from the regions of Garo Hills, Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills have chosen the NPP due to the developmental, social and political works carried out by the party for the overall uplift of Meghalaya.
The national president of NPP also asserted that people have faith in the party to take the state forward.
“After 50 years of statehood, people have seen that various communities and tribes in our state are finally coming together under the banner of the NPP. People are today joining the NPP because they see and have a sense of confidence that only this political party can take the state forward,” Conrad said.
He also maintained that the NPP will continue to grow as a political party and will win the 2023 Assembly elections with full mandate.
Meanwhile, Tynsong said that the NPP continues to get politically stronger despite all the brickbats from other parties.
He also gave the lie to People’s Democratic Front MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh’s statement that the NPP had offered him Rs five crore to join the party.
Byrsat, who was part of the gathering, also lauded the decision of Kimfa to join the NPP.
