BSF rescues 3,308 cattle in 2022 along int’l border

SHILLONG, Dec 31: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya has rescued 3,308 cattle along the Indo-Bangladesh border in 2022.

According to a statement from the BSF, troops of BSF Meghalaya on Saturday intercepted two trucks en route Bangladesh and recovered 31 buffaloes along the international border in East Khasi Hills.
The seizure, according to the BSF, was made on Ichamati-Shella road close to the Indo-Bangladesh border.
“Buffaloes were found crammed inside two trucks and tethered mercilessly in a pathetic condition. On seeing BSF approaching, both the drivers ran into the forest leaving these trucks behind,” the BSF said.
On the same day, the BSF personnel also seized cosmetics items worth Rs 8.5 lakh from the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Jaintia Hills.
Clothing, cosmetic items worth Rs 99 lakh seized
in December
In another statement, the BSF Meghalaya informed that they have recently foiled smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border and confiscated clothing and cosmetics items worth Rs 99 lakh in the month of December.
According to a statement, the troops of BSF Meghalaya, in one such case, seized clothing items worth Rs 11 lakh from the international border in East Khasi Hills.
The seized items were being smuggled to Bangladesh in the pick-up truck.
Meanwhile, in another incident, the BSF personnel, in a joint operation with Meghalaya Police, apprehended a 20-year-old Bangladeshi national along the bordering area of South Garo Hills, and seized from his possession blankets, cosmetics items, liquor and other miscellaneous items.
It was informed that the Bangladeshi national, identified as Md Asherul Hoque, had illegally entered the Indian territory with an intention to smuggle a consignment from India to Bangladesh.
