Five MLAs from other parties to feature in UDP third list

SHILLONG, Jan 9: The United Democratic Party (UDP) will release its third list of candidates soon.
It will have the names of five MLAs of other parties who are likely to join the UDP. “We will release another list, comprising the names of five sitting MLAs who are joining the party in the coming days,” UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh told reporters after a meeting of the party’s State Election Committee on Monday.
Suspended Congress MLAs PT Sawkmie (Mawlai) and Mayralborn Syiem (Nongpoh), Trinamool Congress MLA Shitlang Pale (Sutnga-Saipung), HSPDP MLA and Cabinet Minister Renikton L Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat) and Nongkrem Independent MLA Lambor Malngiang are likely to join the UDP.
Two names, which featured on the party’s second list released recently, were that of former MLA John Leslee K Sangma, who will fight against Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the South Tura seat, and Pilne A Sangma, who will contest from the North Tura seat.
The UDP had declared the names of 32 candidates, including seven from Garo Hills region, in the first list.
