SHILLONG, Jan 10: A large gathering including Chief Minister and NPP supremo, Conrad Sangma, welcomed former MLA Samlin Malngiang into the National People’s Party at a function in Sohiong, East Khasi Hills, on Tuesday.
It is worth noting that Malngiang will be NPP candidate from Sohiong constituency.
Like Malngiang, many of the leaders from all corners of the state are joining the party due to the good work of the NPP-led MDA Government in the past five years, the CM said in his address.
He reiterated that the NPP will form a single-party government after the 2023 polls. “With the support of the people, I can assure that NPP will form a single party government in 2023. We will form a strong and decisive government who will be able to take the pending issues forward and find solution to it,” Sangma said, as he expressed satisfaction in the work accomplished by the government in the past 5 years.
The CM pointed out that the MDA works as a team, and emphasised that every member of the coalition is important.
Seconding Conrad, his deputy Prestone Tynsong said the NPP will repeat what was done in 1972 general elections by getting an absolute majority. “We know that the APHLC got 32 seats in 1972. We are going to repeat this in 2023,” Tynsong said.
While taking a dig at the United Democratic Party (UDP), Tynsong raised doubts at UDP’s claim of winning 22 seats in polls. “My question from where would they win the 22 numbers of seats. I fear that the UDP will manage to win only from two seats,” he added.
