Discussion on SVEEP activities for PwDs ahead of polls

Tura, Jan 12: As a run up to the upcoming General Assembly Election, 2023 SVEEP Core Committee members on Thursday, held a Meeting on SVEEP activities and awareness campaigns for PwDs at DRDA conference hall in Tura.

Speaking during the meeting, the Project Director, DRDA, Tura Dolrich B G Momin informed that as per the direction of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya Shillong to improve the electoral participation of the voters in the forthcoming General Elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly 2023, the Election commission would be giving special focus under the initiative called Mission 300.

Meanwhile, with regard to the awareness campaigns for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), ADC Election, Tura Rojalinda Shira informed that they would need the support of the Social Welfare department in identifying the PwDs in the district. Further, she urged the members of the Core Committee to come up with a comprehensive SVEEP strategy action plan and monitoring of voter awareness at the district level.

Stating that Mission 300 is an intensive SVEEP outreach programme which would be launched in 5 Polling Stations per Assembly Constituency where the turnout during LA 2018 is low, she said that the main objective of the Mission 300 Campaign is to encourage voters to come forward and vote in the forthcoming General Elections 2023. Informing about Form 12 D for voting through postal ballot facility for PwDs, she said that the benchmark is 40 percent disability, 80+ Voters and Covid suspected or infected persons.

It was also decided during the meeting to encourage and motivate the voters through various awareness campaigns, media platforms amongst others.
