MAWKYRWAT, Jan 11: Mawkyrwat MLA and PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar on Wednesday inaugurated two water supply scheme projects, viz. Nonglang Water Supply Scheme at Nonglang village and Rangmaw Water Supply Scheme at Rangmaw village, in South West Khasi Hills.
Funded under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for Rs Rs 8.33 crore, the Nonglang Water Supply Scheme will provide potable water to Nonglang, Nongdom, Pdengshnong, Pyndenbah and Pyndenjathong.
Similarly, the Rangmaw Water Supply Scheme, which was funded under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund for Rs 5.9 crore will cover all households at Rangmaw village.
During the day, the PHE minister also laid the foundation stones for two more projects, viz. Retrofitting of Rangmaw Water Supply Scheme at Rangmaw village and Mawsaw Combined Water Supply Scheme at Mawsaw village, both funded under JJM.
The Mawsaw Combined Water Supply Scheme, once completed, is likely to cover 14 villages in the Shiliang Um Rilang area, viz. Mawsaw, Mawsaw Mihngi, Laitlawsnai, Mawthawpdah, Domruah Mawmitbah, Kharew, Sohmasem, Domshrah, Domtraw, Tiehtaliar, Nonglynkien and Mawkhew villages.
During the programme, Tongkhar expressed hope that the completion of the two water supply schemes will solve the problems of water crisis at Rangmaw village and Nonglang area.
He also requested the village authorities of Rangmaw and Nonglang to work in tandem with the PHE department so that problems, especially with regard to maintenance of the water supply schemes, can be jointly addressed.
Tongkhar urged upon the people of Mawsaw area to cooperate with the PHE department and ensure that there is a smooth implementation of the Water Supply Scheme.
He also warned that problems might arise if the project cannot be completed within March 2024.
