SHILLONG, Jan 11: In continuation of the party’s tirade against the MDA Government, TMC’s Derek O’Brien, a Rajya Sabha member, has slammed the ruling parties in the state while alleging that they are hand in glove with the BJP leading the government at the Centre.
Addressing a press conference here after unveiling the TMC’s election song at the party office here on Wednesday, the MP said the parties sing different tunes in Delhi and Meghalaya.
He said there is a need to go through the speeches of some of the party leaders in Meghalaya when the entire Northeast was protesting tooth and nail against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act. “We are clear either in Meghalaya or anywhere else, the BJP is bad for the country for the one reason that they don’t honor the Constitution of India and we are here to form the government on our own,” the MP said. The TMC leader has ruled out working with the BJP, while emphasising that the party is serious about Meghalaya.
Claiming that the TMC has a good team in the state, Derek downplayed the ‘Bengali party’ tag.
He even recalled that the TMC MPs in the last Rajya Sabha session raised the matter pertaining to the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
TMC’s state president Charles Pyngope said that the ‘Bengali party’ is nothing but a ploy by the political parties in Meghalaya as they have no other ammunition against the TMC.
