SHILLONG, Jan 16: As many as 20 cattle, which were crammed in a truck, were confiscated by the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya personnel while being smuggled into neighbouring Bangladesh.
According to a statement, the incident took place along the international border in East Jaintia Hills on Monday when the BSF personnel, deployed at Sonapur bridge, signalled the truck to stop.
The truck, however, sped away towards Umkiang area, only to be later intercepted by the BSF personnel following a hot pursuit.
The trucker, on the other hand, cashed in on a dark forest along the road and fled the scene, leaving the cattle-laden truck behind.
It was after this the BSF personnel subsequently confiscated the cattle and the truck.
