SHILLONG, Jan 16: National Congress Party (NCP) state president and Gambegre MLA Saleng Sangma has asked police to take suo motu cognisance and issue an arrest warrant against National People’s Party (NPP) worker Besterfield N Sangma for allegedly distributing spurious cheques, amounting to lakhs, among different groups in Gambegre block.
Saleng said that in some pictures, Besterfield was seen giving away alleged dummy cheques to people.
According to him, ‘Meg LIFE Village Project implementation Committee’ is what has been written on the cheques, which also do not have any seal or signature.
Taking umbrage at the activity, Saleng questioned who gave Besterfield the authority to distribute dummy cheques in the village, especially in the absence of any official.
“Before election, they are fooling people; and the administration and police must take note of this and a case should be registered,” Saleng said.
