EJH police seize huge cache of explosives

SHILLONG, Jan 17: East Jaintia Hills police on Monday seized around 650 kilograms of gelatin sticks and 200 electric detonators from Jalaphet Bri-Sumer and arrested four persons.
According to a police statement, the incident took place on Monday after police received a tip-off that three to four people were spotted roaming suspiciously in the jungle areas of Jalaphet Bri-Sumer carrying boxes.
During the ensuing operation, the police team spotted four people — Point Chyrmang (30), Nikalai Chyrmang (21), Mij Chyrmang (22) and Shanbor Chyrmang (22) — sleeping inside a cowshed.
“On waking them and on inspection of the cowshed, multiple carton boxes were found. On opening the carton boxes, it was found that the boxes contained gelatin sticks. Further, during proper checking, 26 carton boxes containing gelatin sticks and four carton boxes containing electric detonators and were recovered and seized accordingly,” the statement said.
