Nongpoh, Jan 19: Ri Bhoi district police in Meghalaya arrested two high-profile drug traffickers who are actively involved in inter-state drug smuggling.
Ribhoi ANTF on Wednesday swung into action based on a tip-off that two drug peddlers are transporting illegal contraband from Manipur to Shillong via Assam.
With constant field inputs and surveillance, the suspects were finally intercepted in Byrnihat at 5 pm. Later, a search was conducted in the presence of an independent witness, and 20 soap boxes containing heroin with an estimated international market value of Rs 1.2 crores were recovered.
A preliminary test conducted on-the-spot showed positive for presence of heroin.
