Party deserters will taste electoral defeat: PDF

SHILLONG, Jan 18: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) working president Banteidor Lyngdoh has said that he fears Jason S Mawlong and Hamletson Dohling, the two former party MLAs who joined the National People’s Party (NPP) fold, are going to be trounced in the Assembly elections.
“The two former party MLAs had joined the NPP with the hope of winning with a bigger margin. But I fear that they will be defeated by deserting the party,” Lyngdoh said, while addressing the party supporters during a public meeting held at Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar, on Wednesday.
PDF president Gavin M Mylliem, on the other hand, said the party must remain firm on its stand to not mislead the people of the state.
“As a party, we haven’t endorsed all decisions taken by the government. We have flagged our opposition to issues which we felt were detrimental to the people of the state,” Mylliem said, adding that the party will be looking to win maximum of the seats.
Meanwhile, PDF general secretary Auspicious L Mawphlang said the party will pursue all major issues afflicting the people of the state.
“It is very sad due to the dearth of quality political leaders in the state. I decided to join mainstream politics to fill this vacuum,” Lyngdoh said.
