SHILLONG, Jan 20: Troopers of 4th battalion BSF rescued 17 cattle heads which were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh through the international border in West Jaintia Hills, on Thursday.
According to a statement, the cattle were found tethered to the bushes very close to Indo-Bangla border when impounded by BSF troops of border outpost Rongtilla.
Smugglers often hide cattle in the forest area and try to cross them through unfenced patches on getting the opportunity, it said.
The BSF has seized 3,481 cattle in 2022 on the international border.
