Kerala govt grants menstrual leave for students
Kochi, Jan 20: The Kerala government has decided to grant menstrual leave to students in all state-run higher education institutions. The state Higher Education Department, in an order issued on Thursday, stated that girl students can now appear for their semester exams with 73 per cent attendance instead of the 75 per cent mandated under the University Rules. Moreover, it also said that all female students above the age of 18 can avail up to 60 days pregnancy leave. Earlier on January 16, State Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, R. Bindu, in a Facebook post, had praised the Cochin University of Science and Technology for being the first educational institution in the state to implement menstrual leaves. (UNI)
DGCA imposes fine, suspends pilot-in-command
New Delhi, Jan 20: Aviation regulator DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India and suspended the License of pilot-in-command for three months in connection with the Air India urination case. Moreover, the regulator has also imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakh on Director-in-flight services of Air India for failing to discharge her duties on November 26, 2022. The development in the case came a day after the airline banned the alleged accused Shankar Mishra for four months on the basis of a report by the internal committee. The incident of passenger misbehaviour which occurred on AI-102 flight from New York to New Delhi, came to the notice of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on January 4, 2023 wherein a male passenger conducted himself in a disorderly manner and allegedly relieved himself on a female passenger, said a senior DGCA official. 1.8 kg uranium seized in Patna, nine arrested
Patna, Jan 20: Nine persons, including two Nepalese nationals, were arrested in Patna on Friday for smuggling highly radioactive “uranium metal”, police said. A team of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) learnt about a uranium consignment that reached the city’s Patrakar Nagar police station area, a team was set up, and carried out a raid, seizing the metal and arresting nine. Apart from two Nepalese nationals, the 7 others belong to Patna and Purnea districts. According to an ATS Patna official, who requested anonymity, the 1.8 kg of highly radioactive metal was in two black bags with each having 900 gram weight. (PTI)
The manufacturing and expiry dates of June 3, 2017 and October 28, 2024, respectively mentioned on each of the bags, which also had “metal from the US” written on them.

kolkata, Jan 12: A Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead in broad daylight at Ketugram in West Bengal’s East Burdwan district on Thursday morning, police said. The deceased has been identified as Dulal Sheikh, 45. Police are investigating the matter. District Trinamool leaders claimed that the murder was a fallout of some family problem. However, local BJP leaders have claimed that the event was the fallout of infighting in the ruling party over illegal sand mining in the area. It is learnt that the victim was a trader in construction materials, including sand. On Thursday, he was having a cup of tea at a roadside stall, when some masked miscreants came on a motorcycle and shot him from close range. (IANS)
