SHILLONG, Jan 21: Meghalaya has always been sluggish when it comes to the hurly-burly of elections. This time is no exception.
With 40 days to go for the D-Day, the tempo of election campaigning is yet to pick up.
As of now, most of the candidates are focusing on door-to-door campaigning while booth-level meetings of different political parties and candidates are also taking place.
Most of the political parties, as of now, have not yet called their star campaigners from outside.
It is said that the NPP will launch its poll campaign later this week with a meeting lined up in Garo Hills
On Saturday, the UDP was also seen organising a rally in North Shillong and even TMC parliamentary party leader Mukul Sangma was seen inaugurating a party office in Tikrikilla constituency.
BJP is yet to announce its nominees, although party activities are noticeable in North Shillong constituency.
It is expected that the parties will shift gears once the last date of withdrawal gets over and the final line-line becomes irreversible.
As per the ECI, January 31 will be the date of gazette notification for the polls, while February 7 is the last date of filing nominations.
February 8 is the date of scrutiny of the nominations and February 10 the last date for the withdrawal of candidature.
