NEW DELHI, Jan 21: Meghalaya Day was celebrated in the national capital here on Saturday with prominent persons of the state taking part and dignitaries starting from President to Prime Minister congratulating the hill state and its people.
Celebrating the day, President Droupadi Murmu, in her greetings to the people, stressed upon the richness and beauty of the state and wished the people a bright future. “Greetings on the statehood day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura. The rich culture, natural beauty and abiding traditions of these states enrich our diversity. The people of these states are known for their talent and spontaneity. I wish a very bright future to all of them,” Murmu said.
Extending greetings on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi prayed for the fulfilment of the aspirations of the people. “Greetings to the people of Meghalaya on their Statehood Day. This state is known for its vibrant culture, particularly music, art and passion towards sports,” he said in his tweet.
Several national leaders cutting across party lines took to social media and extended greetings and warm wishes to the people of the three states in Northeast India.
In a function at Meghalaya House, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, top officers both serving and retired including Secretary, Petroleum, Pankaj Jain, and Principal Secretary Sampat Kumar, who hosted the event were present.
