Cong clears 55 names for polls

NEW DELHI/ SHILLONG, Jan 25: The Congress party officially released a list of its candidates in 55 seats, including 10 women, six MDCs and several young candidates, for the February 27 Assembly elections in the state.
The list includes Vincent H Pala, Deborah Marak, Celestine Lyngdoh, Rona Khymdeit, Charles Marngar, PN Syiem, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, Nehru Suting, Gabriel Wahlang, Brigady N Marak and Billykid A Sangma.
The party’s new recruit, Saleng Sangma has been allotted ticket for the Gambegre seat while Rophul S Marak will contest from Rongara-Siju. The AICC screening committee met in New Delhi on Tuesday followed by a meeting of the central election committee which approved the list.
MPCC president Vincent Pala said, “The list includes 33 young candidates, 10 women candidates and candidates from all communities including Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Seng Khasi.”
He was hopeful that the party will get a majority on its own.
He also said that the names of the party candidates in the remaining seats would be announced shortly.
