SHILLONG, Jan 28: Opposition TMC on Saturday criticised the NPP-led MDA government over its alleged failure to take appropriate steps to ensure coal mining in the state.
“Only promises are being given in every election, but the government don’t live up to them. The sons of this soil, who are supposed to be rich, are suffering under this government,” said Leader of the Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma while addressing an election rally at Mawshynrut in West Khasi Hills.
He reminded, “Don’t we remember what was said in the 2018 elections? Didn’t they say that they will resume coal mining within six months of forming the government? Therefore, we will have to give a judgment to the corrupt-NPP government today”.
In yet another election rally at Phulbari, the Leader of Opposition expressed confidence in forming the government and listed the priorities of the party including employment generation for youth.
He said, “It is disheartening to see that nothing has improved in the last five years. This area is in desperate need of development. Our children are in pain. It is time to unite and bring about change by bringing TMC into power.”
Mukul came down heavily on the MDA government for ‘duping’ the people of Meghalaya by giving away the land to Assam.
“I witnessed how the MDA government forcibly transferred land to Assam. Now is the time to protect our land peacefully. First and foremost, we must remove this surrogate government so that we can move forward and resolve our issues amicably. This is only attainable through the power of the vote,” Sangma said, while urging people to vote for TMC.
The Leader of the Opposition also held another public meeting at Rongjeng, East Garo Hills.
