SHILLONG, Jan 29: The UDP, which is in high hopes of trouncing the NPP and heading a government led by a regional party in Meghalaya, is likely to announce four more names in its final list of party candidates for the Assembly polls.
Meghalaya will go to polls on February 27.
A senior UDP leader on Sunday said the party will release the final list of candidates in a day or two.
“We have received applications from several constituencies. But we are not convinced with the applications received in many of these constituencies. We would not want to put up candidates just for the sake of it,” the senior UDP leader said.
Elaborating further, he said the UDP intends to put up candidates who will put up a tough fight in all constituencies.
So far, the UDP has released names of a total of 40 candidates which include sitting and former MLAs, besides senior party leaders.
The UDP is also reportedly ready with the party manifesto for 2023 polls. “We will release the party manifesto shortly,” a senior party leader said.
