Ri-Bhoi girl brings home best commander trophy

NONGPOH, Jan 30: In what may be termed as a proud moment for Ri-Bhoi and Meghalaya, Cadet Under Senior Officer Risa-Iba Laloo was adjudged the ‘Best Commander’ during the NCC PM Rally held at Cariappa Parade Ground, New Delhi on January 28.
The 21-year-old girl hailing from Diwon village in Ri-Bhoi is the daughter of Was Laloo and Wilda Teron. She had joined the NCC in 2020 and was part of the NCC contingent from the NER Directorate at the NCC PM Rally alongside the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Army’s Senior Wings to celebrate 75 years of inception of the NCC.
When contacted, Risa-Iba said she was elated after being selected to lead nearly 1,000 cadets at the rally and for being awarded the ‘Best Commander’ trophy.
“I am extremely happy to have been adjudged as the best commander during the rally which is indeed a proud moment not just for myself, but also for my parents, my state and the Northeastern region as a whole,” Risa-Iba said.
Risa-Iba, who wants to be an Army officer, said this feat will encourage her to scale fresh heights in life and will also motivate youths of the state and the region to work hard and strive to achieve their dreams no matter how tough and difficult the situation may be.
The dignitaries at the rally included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, Army chief Gen. Manoj Pande, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Harikumar and high ranking officials of the country beside an audience of more than 10,000 people.
