MAWKYRWAT, Feb 2: The PDF has decided not to field any candidate from Mawkyrwat constituency and instead support UDP and its candidate Renikton L Tongkhar during the upcoming Assembly elections.
This was revealed during a meeting at the office of the UDP in Mawkyrwat on Thursday.
A team of the PDF leaders, led by PDF South West Khasi Hills president Kyntiew Nongsiej and PDF Mawkyrwat constituency president Maiantis Lyngkhoi, was welcomed during the meeting by Tongkhar in the presence of UDP Mawkyrwat Circle president Shainkor Nongsiej, UDP working president Dominic Shangpliang, among others.
Addressing the attendees, Kyntiew Nongsiej made it clear that they are not abandoning the PDF but are supporting Tongkhar.
Informing that the decision was taken collectively by the leaders and supporters of the PDF from all levels, Nongsiej said the reason why PDF has decided to support Tongkhar was because of his performance as a legislator in the past five years and the developmental activities initiated in Mawkyrwat constituency in particular and the district in general.
He said another reason for extending support to Tongkhar was because the PDF wants to see a regional party lead the government.
Meanwhile, an elated Tongkhar expressed his gratitude to the leaders and supporters of the PDF, and requested them to meet the leaders of the UDP at the village level and work as a team.
