SHILLONG, Feb 7: Vigilant troops of BSF Meghalaya rescued 29 cattle from the international border in East Khasi Hills on Monday, which were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
Acting on specific tip-off, the mobile check post of BSF 4th battalion seized the cattle heads in the Nongskhen area while they were being taken towards the border by smugglers.
After being intercepted, the smugglers fled the scene leaving the cattle behind.
Smugglers often hide cattle in the forest area and attempt to cross them through unfenced patches during night. BSF is thus maintaining high degree of alertness along the international border to prevent all types of trans-border crimes.
