SHILLONG, Feb 8: UDP president and Mairang candidate Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday said he had no problem if voters of his constituency reject him in the upcoming Assembly polls if they were unhappy with his effort to upgrade Mairang into Eastern West Khasi Hills District.
“I want to send a message across to those people who are criticising me that the creation of the East West Khasi Hills district is not serving the interest of the people of the constituency. I want to tell the people not to vote for me if I was wrong in getting the district for Mairang,” Lyngdoh said while addressing a general meeting of the UDP Mairang circle on Wednesday.
The UDP president was reacting to “talks” among a section of the people in his constituency that any MLA who brings a district never wins the election.
It may be mentioned that former Chief Minister DD Lapang had lost the Assembly election in 1993 after Ri-Bhoi district was created.
He wanted people to judge him on the work he has done for the development of the constituency.
“It is the electorates who will decide my fate depending on whether they are happy or not with the work I have done for the past many years,” Lyngdoh said.
