Shillong, Feb 9: The Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) candidate from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum on Thursday filed an FIR at Sadar Police Station here asking for an inquiry regarding the amount of Rs 43 crore, claimed to be unaccounted for out of the Rs 119 crore received as central grants-in-aid through National Health Mission for COVID-19 activities which had been flagged by RTI activist Disparsing Rani recently.

Speaking to reporters after filing the FIR, Nongrum alleged that there was an attempt to misuse the funds earmark by the Centre through the NHM by reminding that state health minister, James PK Sangma in his reply to a question he had raised during the Autumn Session of the State Assembly, had stated that Rs 76 crore was sanctioned by the central government fir COVID19 management.

Nongrum said t this only proved that there was misutilisation of the funds earmark by the Centre for COVID-19 expenditure in Meghalaya.

It may be recalled that the health minister in his reply had also stated that the state government had spent a sum of Rs 816 crore on COVID-19 management.
