BSF-police teams seize over 18,000 yaba tablets

SHILLONG, Feb 9: In a joint operation, personnel of 100th Battalion BSF and Meghalaya Police recovered 18,800 yaba tablets from the possession a drug peddler in West Garo Hills, who was also apprehended.
The BSF and police were performing their pre-election duties in view of the February 27 polls. The arrested drug peddler was heading towards Rangsai village area, West Garo Hills, in his vehicle when he was nabbed by the joint team.
The apprehended person has been identified as Raj Ali, a resident of Goalpara. He disclosed that he picked up the Yaba consignment from Goalpara. A case has been registered against the culprit by Meghalaya Police.
Since the deployment of BSF in election duty, BSF and police have jointly seized drugs and narcotics items like heroin, liquor and Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 3.10 crore.
Earlier, an alleged drug supplier from Mizoram was arrested and heroin worth Rs 5 crore was seized from his possession in East Jaintia Hills district.
Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed the person at a petrol pump in Lad Rymbai and seized over 1 kg of heroin from his car.
Meghalaya is heading to polls on February 27 and so far drugs worth Rs 6 crore have been seized and two persons arrested in separate incidents.
