Pala richest with Rs 93 cr, Metbah second in assets

SHILLONG, Feb 9: A number of the candidates of February 27 Assembly elections in the state are crorepatis, with some owning luxurious cars and expensive watches.
Pradesh Congress president Vincent H Pala, who is contesting Assembly polls for the first time, is the richest candidate. He owns a Rolex watch worth Rs 8 lakh, 4 Apple iPhones worth Rs 5 lakh and seven vehicles.
The total value of the Shillong MP’s movable assets is Rs 1.16 crore. His wife is also a crorepati with movable assets worth Rs 1.32 crore.
Pala, who is contesting from Sutnga-Saipung, owns several lands worth Rs 91.25 crore. His wife also owns lands worth Rs 32.05 crore.
United Democratic Party (UDP) president and Mairang candidate, Metbah Lyngdoh is the second richest candidate in terms of assets declared. As per his election affidavit, the total value of his moveable assets is Rs 11.24 crore. His wife has moveable assets worth Rs 76.24 crore.
Similarly, the total current market value of his immovable asset is Rs 10.31 crore while the total of current market value of his spouse’s immoveable asset is Rs 48.50 crore.
Lyngdoh has total savings of Rs 1.88 crore and he has fixed deposits with present value of Rs 2.89 crore. His wife’s total savings are of Rs 5.26 crore. She has fixed deposits with present value of Rs 3.58 crore.
Lyngdoh owns 10 vehicles worth Rs 82.30 lakh and his spouse owns 37 vehicles with a total value of Rs 3.34 crore. The couple owns a large number of lands in the state.
The assets of NPP candidate and Cabinet Minister James PK Sangma, who was often in the news over alleged irregularities in the Home and Power departments that he looked after, increased significantly since 2018.
As per his affidavit, the total value of his moveable assets is Rs 15.69 crore, compared to Rs 10.6 crore five years ago.
In 2018, he owned two vehicles – an Audi A6 worth Rs 69 lakh and a Toyota Fortuner 4X4 worth Rs 27.66 lakh. Now, he owns four vehicles including a Mercedes Benz worth Rs 1.26 crore and an Audi Q7 worth Rs 81 lakh. His cash in hand has increased from Rs 20,000 in 2018 to Rs 7.39 lakh in 2023. The current market value of his immovable assets is Rs 4.48 crore. It was Rs 4.11 crore in 2018. Currently, he has four agricultural lands. He had two agricultural lands in 2018. He continues to own two residential buildings.
The value of moveable assets of his wife is Rs 16.57 crore. It was Rs 14.5 crore in 2018. The total current market value of her immovable asset is Rs 16.28 crore compared to Rs 13 crore in 2018.
She owns 11 agricultural lands. She owned 8 agricultural lands in 2018. Her fixed deposits with banks are worth Rs 1.02 crore and her mutual funds investment is Rs 1.14 crore. She also has shares in CMJ Breweries Private Limited (unlisted) with total value of Rs one crore. Her 3 insurance policies are worth Rs 1.05 crore.
Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar is also among the richest.
According to his affidavit, the total value of his moveable assets is Rs 80.85 lakh while the same of his wife is Rs 19.18 crore. She owns 38 vehicles, a significant jump from the six she owned in 2018.
In 2018, the total value of Dhar’s moveable assets was Rs 58.41 lakh while his spouse had moveable assets worth Rs 95.04 lakh.
The total current market value of Dhar’s land stands at Rs 8.15 crore. The same of his wife is valued at Rs 16.63 crore. In 2018, the total market value of his land was Rs 3.28 crore and the total of market value of his spouse’s land was Rs 1.60 crore. She now owns 11 non-agricultural lands and 4 residential buildings.
Chief Minister and NPP’s South Tura candidate, Conrad K Sangma has total moveable assets worth Rs 1.16 crore. His wife’s moveable asset is worth Rs 2.80 crore.
Conrad owns four agricultural lands, one non-agricultural land and three residential buildings with total current market value of Rs 6.20 crore. His wife owns two non-agricultural lands and two residential buildings with total current market value of Rs 4.13 crore.
In 2018, Conrad’s moveable assets were worth Rs 93.40 lakh. The same of his wife was worth Rs 31.80 lakh. The CM had owned six non-agricultural lands, then valued at Rs 43.20 lakh. His wife’s immoveable assets then were worth Rs 2.70 crore.
The total value of former chief minister and TMC candidate Mukul Sangma’s moveable assets is Rs 2.29 crore. The same of his wife and Mahendraganj candidate Dikkanchi D Shira is Rs 3.45 crore.
Mukul owns four vehicles and one Erma Werte .32 bore NP revolver. Dikkanchi has a number of plantations of cashew nuts besides investment in paddy, broom stick cultivation etc.
Mukul and his spouse own eight and 24 agricultural lands respectively. She also owns 33 other lands, including some coal mines. The total current market value of Mukul’s lands is Rs 2.23 crore. The same of his wife is valued at Rs 20.23 crore.
Shitlang Pale owns unextracted coal reserve worth Rs 5 crore. Two of the crorepatis in Khliehriat are Nehlang Lyngdoh and former Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla.
Former MLA Nehlang Lyngdoh, whose qualification is class VII pass, owns 15 vehicles. His moveable asset is worth Rs 1.48 crore. He also owns non-agricultural land at Elaka Rymbai in East Jaintia Hills with current market value of Rs 20 crore.
Shylla’s moveable assets are worth Rs 1.95 crore. His affidavit suggests he does not own any land in the state.
Former Cabinet Minister and BJP’s Pynthorumkhrah candidate AL Hek is also a crorepati but as per his affidavit, neither he nor his wife owns a vehicle.
The total value of his moveable assets is Rs 5.83 crore. His wife has moveable assets worth Rs 1.31 crore.
Hek owns one agricultural land, three non-agricultural lands and one commercial building worth Rs 8.7 crore. His wife owns property worth Rs 1.1 crore.
In 2018, the total value of his moveable assets was Rs 3.87 crore. He had immovable property worth Rs 3.46 lakh. His wife was a lakhpati then.
Deputy Chief Minister and NPP’s Pynursla candidate Prestone Tynsong has moveable assets worth Rs 1.8 crore. The same of his wife is worth Rs 1.9 crore.
He owns land worth Rs one crore and his wife owns land worth Rs 3.6 crore. Tynsong’s second dependent owns two lands worth Rs 2.3 crore.
BJP’s North Shillong candidate and former IPS officer, M Kharkrang has moveable assets worth Rs 2.06 crore. He owns land worth Rs 2.46 crore. UDP candidate from the same constituency, Aman Warr’s moveable assets are valued at Rs 1.60 crore. He also owns some lands whose market value is Rs 1.4 crore.
The NPP candidate of the constituency and former PWD chief engineer, Ransom Sutnga owns land whose current market value is Rs 2.75 crore. His wife owns land worth Rs 3.85 crore. Adelbert Nongrum of the VPP does not own any land as per his affidavit.
Some, contesting the polls, have limited assets. Richard Nongbsap, who is contesting from Mylliem as an independent candidate, has Rs 50,000 in hand. The value of his moveable asset is Rs 1.13 lakh.
