SHILLONG, Feb 12: In a frontal attack on the BJP which is going all out to establish itself in the state, the ruling NPP on Sunday advised the former’s central leadership to immediately “change” their State president Ernest Mawrie to avoid getting sidelined.
“The BJP leadership at the Centre should give a second thought and immediately change their State president otherwise BJP will neither be accepted nor the party will be able to gain a foothold in Meghalaya,” NPP spokesperson Bajop Pyngrope said.
Criticising the State BJP president for attacking its coalition partner (read NPP) constantly without any rhyme or reason, Pyngrope said, “He (Mawrie) cannot just speak whatever he feels against the coalition government.”
Asked if this will not strain the already biter relationship between the two coalition partners of the MDA, he said, “Our relationship with the central leadership is good…so there will be no problem.”
On Mawrie contesting the Assembly polls from West Shillong constituency, he said Mawrie is yet to be tested as an elected representative since he is just a state president.
“We are happy that he is contesting. When the results will come out he will certainly lose his security,” Pyngrope said.
Stating that the voters of West Shillong will show him his true place, Pyngrope said, “He is not even in the competition. The fight is between the NPP and UDP.”
“The results will come out on March 2 and what I am saying today will be repeated,” he added.
