SHILLONG, Feb 13: Under heavy fire from the Opposition and coalition partners alike, the NPP has asserted the umpteen criticisms are a clear indication of the growing support for the party.
Reacting to a barrage of attacks from all quarters, NPP spokesperson Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “If the NPP is being hammered right and left by all parties, it is a clear indication that the NPP is gaining a lot of support in Meghalaya. For me, personally, this is something we have become used to.”
She also asked the electors to be informed about facts and not be swayed by allegations before casting their votes.
“During elections, the public should be wary of what to accept or reject. There is the Legislative Assembly platform available for public scrutiny, and it is already there in the public domain. Before you listen to any allegations made by anyone, one should just go to the site of the Legislative Assembly and find out and evaluate allegations being made.”
Referring to the allegations levelled by the Congress against the NPP, Lyngdoh argued, “Having been in the Congress for so many years, we did see that not everything going on was perfect but that is such with politics in India. Parties come and go, and my take on this fault-making attempt by the Congress party is mere electoral agenda because if you have to scrutinise so many policies and plans by the government in 51 long years, pretty much every political party will have its high and low.”
On her and few other Congress leaders joining the NPP fold, Lyngdoh said, “We could have taken any other way but keeping in mind the interests of the people, we have forfeited our personal wants and united together with the intent to have a stronger voice, give a stronger government and try our best to increase the voices from within”.
