Chief Secy reviews poll preparedness in SGH

Tura, Feb 16: Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, D.P.Wahlang and DGP Lajja Ram Bishnoi on Thursday, visited South Garo Hills and reviewed the poll preparedness in the district at Circuit House Baghmara.

During the reviewing, District Election Officer S.Awasthi highlighted the various preparations done by the District for the ensuing Assembly Election. He also informed that South Garo Hills has 161 numbers of polling stations out of which 11 numbers are under urban and 146 under rural areas.

Informing that the 1st and 2nd round of Training for polling personnel have been completed with the third round to commence on 23rd, Awasthi added that SWEEP Campaigns are also being held in the  entire District as to create awareness on ethical voting.

Stating that, South Garo Hills District has a history of peaceful conduct of Elections, he however informed that as a preventive measure regular foot and mobile patrols are conducted by Police in coordination with different intelligence agencies.

Chief Secretary D.P.Wahlang in his brief statement emphasized upon the need of proper coordination among the different Cells for the conduct of peaceful Election. He also urged upon the members present to take Election as the topmost priority and to ensure that polling stations are setup as per specifications of the Election Commission and all assured minimum facilities including ramps of specific gradient and sufficient toilets are made available.

The meeting was attended by top District Officials like the DC, SP and all the Nodal Officers of the different Cells.
