SHILLONG, Feb 16: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the Meghalaya government to make endeavour, immediately after the upcoming general elections, to resolve the matter pertaining to the issue of Harijan Colony.
The Court, on Thursday, said that the matter has been adjourned for a considerable period of time on the joint representation of the parties that an amicable settlement will be arrived at. “Since the State election is round the corner, let this matter stand over for a further four weeks,” the Division Bench said.
It emphasised that the state should make every endeavour, immediately after the elections, to resolve the matter since it has been represented on behalf of the state on previous occasions that several parcels of land had been identified for the resettlement of the members of the first respondent body.
