UDP, NPP supporters clash in West Shillong

SHILLONG, Feb 16: A clash erupted between supporters of the NPP and UDP in Mawbah, which comes under West Shillong Constituency, on Wednesday night, following which the Rangbah Shnong has decided to impose restrictions, even as police presence was increased after the clash.
According to East Khasi Hills district police chief, Dr Raghavendra Kumar MG, a case has been registered and investigation is on into the matter.
Patrolling and confidence building measures have been increased and a meeting with local administration was held to ensure law and order and peace,” the SP said while adding that the overall situation in the area is under control and under close watch.
Rangbah Shnong David Syiemlieh, on the other hand, said the Dorbar has requested the police to deploy more personnel in the area to ensure no untoward incidents occur.
The Dorbar has also decided that there will no political meetings in the area for the next 2-3 days. “This is a sensitive and cosmopolitan area and we want everything to remain peaceful here,” Syiemlieh said.
