Mawlai candidates vow transparency in implementation of MLA schemes

SHILLONG, Feb 17: A majority of candidates from Mawlai have promised to bring about transparency and accountability in the implementation of MLA schemes in the constituency if elected to power.
It may be mentioned that the Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun on Friday organised a panel discussion at Madan Heh for the candidates who will fight the Assembly elections.
The panel discussion, however, was skipped by UDP candidate PT Sawkmie and TMC candidate Stepbourne Kupar Ryndem.
The candidates who participated in the panel discussion include sitting MDC and NPP candidate Teibor Pathaw, Congress candidate Marbud Dkhar, VPP candidate Brightstarwell Marbaniang, BJP candidate Wandonbok Jyrwa and independent candidate Tarciscious Mawlot.
During the panel discussion, the candidates were also asked about their portfolio preference in the new government, if given any.
To this, while the NPP candidate expressed his desire of holding departments of Community and Rural Development, Sports and Youth Affairs and Agriculture so as to contribute more for the better of the people of the constituency.
Similarly, the BJP candidate said he is ready to take up any portfolio if given an opportunity.
The VPP candidate, on other hand, expressed his desire to be in charge of the Education department, while stating that education is the only way to help people and the state scale new heights.
The Congress candidate said he does not believe in holding any position since his top-most priority is to protect the interest of the indigenous community.
The independent candidate, on the other hand, said he cannot choose any portfolio since his priority will be to reform the political system in Meghalaya.
During the panel discussion, the candidates also highlighted their priorities for the overall development of the constituency.
