CAPFs to conduct flag march in West Shillong

SHILLONG, Feb 18: With West Shillong already having witnessed two instances of clashes between the workers of UDP and NPP in the last one week, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor has informed that the security presence in the constituency will be bolstered whilst the CAPFs will now conduct flag marches from time to time.
It may be mentioned that ever since dates for Meghalaya Assembly elections have been announced, three group clashes have been reported from the constituencies of West Shillong and Phulbari.
While workers and supporters of UDP and NPP had clashed in West Shillong constituency, in Phulbari constituency, clash between TMC and NPP workers had erupted.
Meanwhile, the CEO also informed that the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police had convened a meeting with all the stakeholders, concerned political parties and authorities in West Shillong in the wake of the clashes.
“Strict vigil will be maintained to keep a close watch on the evolving situation,” he said.
