SHILLONG, Feb 20: The BJP is confident that it can win up to 15 seats in the February 27 Meghalaya elections.
BJP state president, Ernest Mawrie on Monday said according to the collective reports of the Intelligence Bureau and the party’s own sources, there will be a “miracle”. He said the projected number of seats for the BJP is 12 but it could go up to 15.
The BJP, which has never won more than 3 seats in Meghalaya, is going all guns blazing this election to improve upon its past performances. Led by its central leaders, it is carrying out an aggressive campaign. It is optimistic about a good show as the Congress has virtually got decimated and the NPP-led government is facing serious corruption charges.
Claiming that the BJP is gaining strength by the day, Mawrie said the ongoing fight between the NPP and the UDP is a good thing for the BJP. He disclosed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, including Smriti Irani, and other leaders would visit the state for campaigning this week.
