City college sensitises young voters
SHILLONG, Feb 20: As elections draw nearer, Shillong College took the initiative of sensitising young voters including the first-timers through a voter awareness programme on the college premises here. The programme, organised by the Department of Political Science, saw lectures on the importance of elections and exercising one’s privilege as a voter given by many speakers including the Principal of the college, Dr E Kharkongor, and HOD, Political Science, VR Solomon. Resource person Sadon K Blah, a social activist, youth leader and Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Seng Khasi College, delivered a talk on the constitutional and ethical aspect of voting.
BSF seizes more cattle along border
SHILLONG, Feb 20: The BSF on Sunday seized 210 cattle heads from the Indo-Bangla border area in East Khasi Hills which were kept close to the boundary with the intention to smuggle them into neighbouring Bangladesh. Acting on specific tip-off, troops of 4 Battalion BSF Meghalaya deployed in Nayabazar area confiscated 210 cattle from the forest area close to village Mawdang, East Khasi Hills, which were kept in improvised bamboo shelters. Smugglers often make attempts to smuggle these cattle in small groups through unfenced patches during night. BSF from the bordering area of East Khasi hills has seized 613 cattle since January 2023. The cattle were handed over to Pynursla PS for further action.
Course on Internet of Things
SHILLONG, Feb 20: A capacity building course on ‘Internet of Things’ under the project ‘Capacity Building in IECT including Training in Digital Skillsets and current Industry Demanding Technologies for various section of society in the NE States’ was initiated by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Shillong, in collaboration with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong. The project is funded by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The course was inaugurated by NEHU Vice Chancellor PS Shukla in the presence of other dignitaries on Monday. Close to 120 students from different disciplines enroled for the 10-day-long course which will stretch till March 4.
