SHILLONG, Feb 21: Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma on Tuesday accused the NPP of peddling lies that he and other TMC leader would join BJP post elections. He also accused the ruling of engaging in hollow rhetoric.
He stated that not joining the BJP is a foregone conclusion as his core value is oneness as enshrined in the constitution which BJP does not believe in.
“Which party has not given me the offer? Every party has, but the question is what do I stand for? I stand for the core values based on oneness that the Constitution of the country enshrined. BJP does not believe in that, there is no trust on the part of the religious minorities because of what is happening across the country, because of the blatant act of the GOI scrapping Article 370 following the agenda of the saffron party. It is reflective of their attitude of imposing their thoughts and ideology on the people,” said Sangma while replying to a query of the BJP offering him to join them.
Castigating the NPP, he said, “Do they have any other issue to be engaged in. Please remember that this is the allegation they are making to get votes. They will say anything and they will lie before the people of the state to get votes.”
“Didn’t Bah Tynsong say it in front of the public whether it was in Umsning or Mawlai? Now I don’t know if people will still believe in him and vote for him. He must be lying to all the people of Pynursla now by giving false promises of bringing development in the area,” he added.
It may be recalled that a video of Tynsong had recently gone viral stating that politicians fool the voters before and after the elections.
“Today the way our party TMC has established itself with the love and affection of the people is amazing. People from every nook and corner, remote areas are welcoming us. The only thing is that it is difficult to reach everywhere and that is always the inherent challenge in a political system. People want be part of the resolve of bringing a change,” Mukul asserted.
He said that if the TMC had another five more extra days, the party would have swept the polls.
“We don’t need any political party, we can stand on our own feet as TMC Meghalaya and as a political party we are going to demonstrate that the people of the state has this resolve to see a change and they are talking about TMC,” he added.
Asked if he would be able to outdo Conrad Sangma this time, he said, “People will decide and will out do. People will throw out this greedy corrupt government.”
Earlier, during the press conference, the Leader of the Opposition made a symbolic gesture with a clock registering March 2, 2023 to convey that the countdown to the end of the MDA government had already begun.
