SHILLONG, Feb 22: In what is going to be a final push by the BJP to leave its mark on the February 27 polls in Meghalaya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a road show in Police Bazar on Friday.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said, “It is for the first time in the history that the Prime Minister of the country will do a road show. I think all the citizens, especially those residing in Shillong, would like to see and hear his speech because he is not only the PM of India but is also a world leader. He is the president of the G20.”
Mawrie defended holding the road show in Police Bazar, a busy commercial hub, saying that it is a central location for people from different constituencies of Shillong.
Mawrie said the Prime Minister will land at the Upper Shillong helipad from where he will go to Jhalupara point and thence to the State Central Library where he would pay floral tributes to the three freedom fighters of the state – U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma.
This will be followed by his address at Police Bazar.
He said the programme has been meticulously planned to be held from 11 am to 1.30 pm so that citizens, including students, are not inconvenienced.
Mawrie asserted that normalcy would not be affected due to the road show as the BJP has taken care of this along with help from the district administration.
“The district administration will not seal all the roads…only particular roads will be sealed for some time,” the BJP state president said, adding that a meeting was held with district administration officials to ensure the public is not affected.
