SHILLONG, Feb 23: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Thursday unveiled its election manifesto with a commitment to put an end to corruption and bring about transparency in the system.
The poll manifesto was jointly released by PDF president Gavin Miquel Mylliem and general secretary Auspicious L Mawphlang.
The PDF, in its manifesto, said that it will fill up all the vacant posts in the various government departments and follow up with the Centre the pending demand for inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eight Schedule.
“We will do away with the personal interview in the recruitment for the vacant posts of Grade B, Grade C and Grade D. We will streamline and improve the functioning of both the MPSC and DSCs,” PDF president said releasing the party manifesto.
Informing that the party, if voted to power, will set up border outposts along the inter-state border with Assam for the safety and security of the border villages, Mylliem said they will also try to push for more developmental projects along the inter-state border.
As far as the education sector is concerned, the PDF president said they will try to provide more support to the educational institutions in the rural areas to reduce the number of dropouts.
“We will also introduce job-oriented courses in the school curriculum. We will set up more government-run vocational institutes to increase job avenues and opportunities among the youth,” Mylliem said.
With regard to the health sector, the PDF president said the party will try to upgrade the functioning of the civil hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and sub-centres.
He said that they will also increase the honorarium of the AHSAs.
On youth development, Mylliem said they will try to implement both the Sports Policy and Youth Policy. “We will come up with a policy on employment generation to create job opportunities and avenues among the youth,” he said.
Mylliem added that they will amend the Mining Policy to allow the small-time miners to mine the mineral resources, which will help them increase their income.
The PDF president said that the party will set a state agriculture policy for the benefit of the farmers to increase their production and income generation, and will try to help the farmers in marketing agriculture produce outside the state.
Besides increasing the power generation of the state, Mylliem said the PDF will take steps to provide potable water to all rural households in Meghalaya.
Among the 11 policies which the party plans to formulate if voted to power include Employment Generation Policy, Skill Development Policy, Agriculture Policy, Food Processing Policy, Labour Policy, Organic Farming Policy, Power Generation Policy, among others.
