SHILLONG, Feb 23: As Meghalaya inches closer to D-Day, former chief minister and TMC leader Mukul Sangma on Thursday made a fervent appeal to the people of the state to become mindful of the current political scenario as well as the “atrocities” meted out to them in the past five years by the NPP-led dispensation.
With less than five days left for the Assembly elections, Mukul on Thursday upped the ante by attending significant meetings at Chokpot, Dalu, Gambegre, North Tura and South Tura.
Addressing a horde of people in Chokpot, the Leader of Opposition said, “People have witnessed the cruel governance of NPP-led MDA over the last five years. Let us not remain silent but wake those people up who have also witnessed the atrocities of the inept government.”
In Dalu, Mukul raked up the contentious issue of Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021, and asserted that he will not let Meghalaya be labelled as a sin city.
“The Conrad Sangma-led MDA government has betrayed the people of Meghalaya with their anti-people policies and ill intentions.
When the religious leaders learned about the formation of the casino in the state, they visited our chief minister and asked him not to introduce a casino in Meghalaya. He assured them of taking it back but later issued three licenses through the backdoor. I will not let Meghalaya be termed as a sin city, and therefore we will ensure to scrap the Gambling law,” the TMC leader said.
In Gambegre, Mukul slammed the ruling dispensation for “ruining” the state’s reputation due to notorious governance.
“Lately, one thing that has become the talk of the town is the massive scandals and scams from the NPP in every corner of Meghalaya. Reports were sent to Delhi, claiming that all the households in the state are connected to water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission. They even received an award but the reality is that the water woes still prevail in the state due to inappropriate work. This is called corruption,” the Leader of Opposition contended.
Super Mario-inspired campaign video launched
Meanwhile, the TMC on Thursday launched an innovative campaign video inspired by the popular video game Super Mario.
Borrowing memorable elements from one of the most popular video games from the 90s, the campaign video has garnered a plethora of reviews on social media with netizens thoroughly enjoying the amalgamation of nostalgia from the past with the politics of the present.
The two-minute animated video highlights TMC’s 10 Pledges For Meghalaya and depicts Mukul as the “Veteran Leader and Able Administrator”, who is seen dodging multiple hurdles and successfully finishing the game by hoisting the TMC’s flag at the main castle of Meghalaya.
In the video, the two-time chief minister is also seen defeating rival party leaders from BJP and NPP.
The video includes multiple promises from the manifesto including the WE Card, MYE Card, the FARM assistance scheme, increasing social pensions, laptops for students, model school in each block, maternal and childcare centres, and abundant opportunities for thriving money.
