SHILLONG, Feb 24: UDP candidate from Nongkrem Lambor Malngiang has asserted that party president Metbah Lyngdoh will succeed Conrad Sangma as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya if they are voted to power.
“We are going to lead the government by getting absolute majority. Our new chief minister will be our party president and I am going to be the new home minister if I am re-elected after March 2,” Malngiang said, while addressing his last election rally, which was attended by his supporters in Smit on Friday.
Asserting that the party is confident of winning 31 out of the 45 seats, Lambor took a dig at VPP’s Nongkrem candidate Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, and rhetorically asked how a party can claim to form the government by fielding only 18 candidates.
“We know that 31 is the magic number to form the government. My question is where are they going to get with this number,” Lambor said.
He also criticised NPP candidate Dasakhiatbha Lamare for his attempt to create confusion and disrupt the peaceful existence among the electorates of Nongkrem constituency.
Lambor said how Lamare can question him on the works that he has done for the constituency in the past five years.
“My request is please doesn’t interfere into the affairs of other’s constituency. Go to Mawhati constituency and tell your people what you have done in the past five years,” the UDP candidate said.
