Polling official dies in road mishap, Rs 15 lakh ex-gratia granted

Shillong, Feb 26: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya F R Kharkongor and the entire election machinery have condoled the unfortunate demise of polling official Chesham Chandra Marak in a road accident in West Garo Hills District.

The Election Department has  granted Rs 15 lakh as exgratia of compensation to the next of kin of the polling official who died while on duty.

Chesham Chandra Marak was deputed as 2nd Polling officer at Jangrapara polling station under Tikrikilla Assembly Constituency in the unfortunate road accident at Potamati village.

Chesam Marak was a keen and dedicated worker and a flag bearer of democracy.

“We salute the tangible contributions of all polling officials involved in the poll process and the acknowledge with gratitude ,the momentous efforts put in by each and every member of the Election machinery as the true “foot soldiers “ of democracy,” said FR Kharkongor, CEO.

Polling on.Meghalaya will be held on February 27.
