SHILLONG, Feb 26: A complaint has been lodged about online campaigning by the TMC during the silence period, according to CEO, FR Kharkongor. After the matter was escalated to the Election Commission, the post was taken down by the party. Nevertheless a show-cause was issued to the TMC, asking it to explain its stand.
The CEO said that the act has been taken as a violation of Section 126 (1)(b) which is “punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine, or with both”.
There were also complaints against BJP based on videos of some people waiting at the residence of West Shillong’s BJP candidate Ernest Mawrie to allegedly collect money. Kharkongor said the deputy commissioner concerned has been asked to follow up.
