SHILLONG, Feb 26: From house music to traditional drumming, bollywood-inspired disco beats and a carbon copy of Shakira’s Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), anything and everything was served to the people during the brisk and strenuous campaigning in Meghalaya.
But songs alone would not have made this big of an impact; it was the spirited supporters of different political parties who gathered in large numbers and danced to these tunes.
In the Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills region, there was a particular pattern to their dancing style as the supporters ran in circles sloganeering and jumping. However, the dance scene in Khasi Hills was simply quite haphazard.
While many of the election songs became quite popular, a few of them seem to have become super hit.
Political parties have definitely given a gala time to the supporters during the campaign process with the songs and music. Now, what remains to be seen is how helpful these have been and whether they will help the parties translate them into votes.
