UDP Sohiong Circle wants party to nominate late HDR’s nephew

Shillong, Mar 1: The UDP Sohiong Circle has recommended the name of former Home Minister, late HDR Lyngdoh’s nephew, Synshar Lyngdoh as the candidate for the Sohiong constituency.

Informing this here on Wednesday, UDP East Khasi Hills district president, Titosstarwell Chyne said that he had received a letter from the UDP Sohiong Circle recommending the name of a nephew of the late former Home Minister for the party candidature.

“I will place the recommendation of the UDP Sohiong Circle before the State Election Committee (SEC). The SEC will take a final decision on the allotment of the party ticket,” Chyne said.

He feels that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the date of the election to the Sohiong Assembly constituency shortly.

The ECI had adjourned the February 27 poll in the Sohiong Assembly constituency of Meghalaya after the demise of the late former Home Minister who had died of cardiac arrest on February 20.

Lyngdoh first represented the constituency in East Khasi Hills from 1988-1998. He won again in 2003 and subsequent polls till 2018 when he lost to Samlin Malngiang of the Hills State People’s Democratic Party.
