SHILLONG, March 1: BJP senior leader Alexander L. Hek on Wednesday said the BJP can work with even the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress, for making Meghalaya a progressive state.
“We are prepared to work with anyone, even the TMC and Congress for the development of the state,” he said.
Hek played down the exit polls which predicted that the NPP would emerge as the single-largest party. “I don’t believe in the exit polls. According to my own exit poll, no party in Meghalaya will get more than 15 seats,” he said.
The BJP leader, said to have faced a tough battle for the Pynthorumkhrah constituency, claimed the party has 24 potential seats. Even if it slips, the BJP would manage 8-10 seats.
He also made light of the meeting between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday night. “Parties and leaders can talk but our party will ultimately decide who to go with for forming the government,” he said.
“I feel we are going to form the government with like-minded parties so that we can ensure corruption-free governance,” Hek said.
The meeting between Sangma, the NPP supremo and Sarma in Guwahati on Tuesday is believed to be an indication of a post-poll alliance.
Earlier, Sarma asserted there will be no hung assembly in Meghalaya as predicted in some exit polls.
