Shillong, Mar 3: In his first reaction after the fragmented election results, former chief minister Mukul Sangma has attributed TMC’s below expectation performance to the use of “black money” by the NPP.

Talking to media persons here on Friday, he wondered where did NPP get so much money if it was not ill-gotten through corrupt means. He repeatedly said use of money power influenced the voters particularly in the rural areas.

Sangma appealed to all non-NPP, non-BJP MLAs to unite for bringing an end to the “corrupt regime”.

He referred to Home Minister Amit Shah’s famous statement that Meghalaya was the most corrupt state of India and said it was now the responsibility of every elected representative to erase that embarrassing sobriquet.

Referring to NPP’s hurried bid to form government, he said that the party had a “swelling greed” for power. ” We cannot allow the corrupt regime to impose itself on the people.

Sangma argued that the people had not given clear mandate to any party. He repeatedly said that having fought the election on corruption issue, it was up to all “responsible” parties to come together for deny them access to power.
